MASTERTON WOOL SKINS AND HIDES SALES.
Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report as follows:—We held our monthly sale of wool, skins, hides, tallow, etc., yesterday. There was the usual attendance of buyers, but the offerings were small and of inferior quality—growers evidently preferring to hold their oddments of wool and skins back on their station to marketing them if? the present condition of the market. Wool prices were weak, but the prices bid were equivalent to tho low figures ruling at the London March sales. We quote:—Wool-Crossbred, 3Jd to 4Jd; lambs, 4d to sd; locks and pieces, Id to 2&d. Skins—Only a rough selection offering. Fine crosbsreds, 4d to sd; medium crossbreds, 3d to 4d; dead skins, 2d to 3id; short wools and pelts, 2d to 3d; lamb skins, 3d to 4d; green skins, Is 4d to Is Bd. Hides-Ox, good, none offering; inferior ox, 2d to B£d; medium cow, 3d to 3§d; inferior cow, lid to 3d; medium calf, 2d to 3Jd; inferior calf, Id to 2d. Tallow —ln tins, 17s to 37s 3d; casks, 20s; rough fat, 13s 3d. Horsehair, Is Id per lb. Our next sale will be neld on May 20th, at 1 p.m. The Wairarapa Farmers Cooperative Association, Ltd., and Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows: —We held our monthly sale of wool, skins and hides yesterday (Wednesday). There was a good attendance of buyers, and competition was keen. We offered 15 bales and 75 bags bags of wool, 1 ~000 sheep skins, and 250 hides. We quote:—Wool.— Fleece 3J to 4d, lambs 3JJ to 4Jd, dingy fleece and pieces 2Jd, crutchings 2Jd to 2|d, locks 2d, dead wool 2f to 3Jd. Skins. —Woolly lambs 3d to 4d, crossbreds 4d, crossbreds (dead) 3d to 3Jd, shorts 3d to 3£d, pelts 3d to 3Jd, crossbred pelts (broken) 3d. Hides.—Cow 2Jd to 2Jd, cow slippy lid to 2d, ox 3|d to 4d, ox slippy 2gd, ox cut 2H calf 2| to 2Jd. Our next sale will be held on Wednesday, May 20th.
