STRIKE OF CARPENTERS.
WESTPORT, April 4. Thirteen carpenters employed at Westport-Stockion Coal Company's construction works at Ngakawau have demanded an increase of wages from eleven to twelve shillings per day. The request was not granted and the men struck. Three, however, returned to work, but the others remain out. The Stockton Company is a new company which has not yet reached the coal output stage. There is no labour union there.
