THE LICENSING BILL.
A CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. Rece'ved April 2, 10.28 p.m. LONDON, April 2.
Mr G. Cave, Conservative member for the Kingston division of Surrey, will in the House of Commons on Monday, move the rejection of the Licensing Bill, on the ground that it fails to promote temperance and violates the principle of equity. The Hon. H. H. Asquith, Chancellor of the Exchequer, addressing the London United Liberal Association, said that the Government had accepted the challenge in connection with the Licensing Bill, and was quite prepared to face the clamour. He declared that gilt-edged securities had risen since the Bill had been introduced, showing that the Government's policy was not considered to be one of* rapine and plunder.
