LABOUR TROUBLES IN AUSTRALIA.
DESPATCH OF STEAMERS. STRIKERS UNEASY. Received April 1, 9.53 a.m. SYDNEY, April 1. The fact that the Newcastle Company is managing to despatch a number of steamers is causing uneasiness to the strikers, especially the carters, who again threaten trouble. The North Coast Company's steamer Bundah sailed yesterday. She had been delayed owing to alleged tampering with her machinery. A CONFERENCE. PROSPECTS OF A SETTLEMENT, HOPEFUL. Received April 2, 1 a.m. ; SYDNEY, April 1. A conference commenced to-day between the representatives of employers' Federation and the Wharf Labourers' Union. No finality was reached, but thejprospects of a settlement are hopeful.
