BT TELEGRAPrr PBESS ASSOCIATION .

VISIT OF THE AMERICAN I FLEET. AUCKLAND, March 31. A good deal of interest is being taken locally in the projected visit of the American fleet to Auckland. From enquiries made by a representative of the "Herald," it is quite apparent that a hearty reception awaits the fleet should the United States authorities decide upon it calling here en route to Australia. The Mayor (Mr A. M. Myers) is prepared to call a meeting of citizens directly he receives intimation that the visit is to be made. Members of Parliament interviewed, expressed the opinion that the Government would assist in making the reception and entertainment of the visitors worthy of the occasion, and that a reasonable grant for the purpose would be supported by both sides of the House.

According.! to the harbour-master (Captain Duder), there is ample accommodation in the harbour for the American fleet if it visited this port. He said that the harbour could accommodate a much larger fleet without interfering with the local shipping, as between North Head and Birkenhead there were four nautical miles of space available, with a varying width of from one-third to onehalf a nautical mile.

NO-LICENSE MOVEMENT. AUCKLAND, March 31. At a meeting of the Auckland Province No-license Council, to-night, the following resolution was carried: —"That this Council viewswith satisfaction the official decalartion signed by the Mayor and 100 professional men of Inveicargill testifying to the success of no-license in that city, which plainly indi:ates that Invercargill's experiment may be safely followed by other electorates in the dominion, and that the Council expresses belief that the jfficial statement will effectively coitradict, if not stop, the false reports circulated by interested persons to discredit the no-license movement."
