TATTERSALL'S SWEEPS.
A REFUTATION. Recently we published a paragraph in which it was stated that a Masterton resident who had left the employ of "Tattersall's," Hobart, about five years ago, received a letter from a friend on the staff of the great sweep syndicate mentioning that the sweeps were likely to be abandoned. The writer of the letter said too much palm oil was necessary now. The paragraph was quoted in a Christchurch paper, and reached "Tattersalls." As a result we have received the following communication signed "Tattersall George Adams": —The Editor Wairarapa Age, Masterton, New enclosed clipping from a Christchurch paper contains quotations from an article that is said to have appeared in your esteemed publication, and vve think it only fair to our institution that" you should allow U3 to draw the attention of your readers to the unjust statements contained therein. We emphatically deny that we have at any time attempted to use "palm oil" as suggested in your article. For nearly eleven years we j have conducted our consultation busi- ! ness under license from the TasmanI ian Government, whose officers have supervised all the drawings that have taken place during that period, besides auditing all books, payments, winning tickets, prize-sheetSjr etc. We also deny that there is any likelihood of the business being abandoned, and may mention that notwithstanding certain restrictions that have been placed upon mi by the Federal Postmaster-General we are now employing a larger staff than we did two years ago, and the falling off in business has not been sufficient to warrant the discharge of any permanent hands. Thanking you in anticipation of the insertion of the above.
