MASTERTON GOLD DREDGING COMPANY.
The annual meeting of the Masterton Gold Dredging Company was held at Dunedin on Friday afternoon, Mr John R. Jones being in the chair. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the former of which has already been published, the Chairman stated that in the last four years they had paid £4 2s in dividends, £1 2s having been distributed this year. They had had a lot of expense during the past year. They had had to lengthen the ladder, and had in so doing found it was in a very bad state. It had now been made almost new, and would last for a very long time. They had got a lot of material on the ground now, costing.£3oo, so that in the coming year they should not have to pay much in the way of repairs. They had won £32,000 worth of gold, which was most satisfactory. They had worked out a new claim ahead of the old one, and were starting on it, and were really as well off as ever. He mentioned that the dredgemaster (Mr Lawson) was retiring, and referred to him in eulogistic terms. The motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet was seconded by Mr Boot, and carried. Mr John K. Jones was re-elected a director, the directors' fees being fixed at 36 guineas as formerly, and Mr Jas. Brown was re-elected auditor at a fee of five guineas. Mr Brown referred to the custom of voting a bonus to the stcretary, who, he said, had performed his duties in an extremely efficient way. He moved that the secretary (Mr W. E. C. Reid) receive a bonus of £25 in respect of last year's work. The motion was carried unanimously.
