SUNDAY DRILL AND CANTEENS.

WELLINGTON, March 30. At a meeting of the Council of the Evangelical Churches, this evening, it was resolved to wait on the Minister and protest against .the needless amount of drill done in Volunteer camps cn Sundays, and to urge that nn canteens be allowed in connection with forthcoming Easter manoeuvres. ROLLING STOCK ON THE MAIN TRUNK LINE. 'AUCKLAND, March 30. Th« rolling stock" for the through trains on the Main Trunk line is being made both at Wellington and Auckland. Before leaving Auckland, Sir Joseph Ward told a "Herald" reporter that ample sleeping accommodation would be provided for all who were likely to want berths. There were, he said, now under construction for the through trains four dining cars, 44 fifty feet carriages, and eight bogie brake vans, while for the Auckland section the rolling stock under construction included ten locomotives, twenty bogie waggons, and 346 four wheeler waggons. On the Auckland section at present thw? wore 58 locomotives, 153 carriages, 155 brake vans, and 2,066 waggons. Thera was seating accommodation in the cars for 6,7§Q passengers. SKELETON FOUND. TAIHAPE, March 30.. The reported find of a skeleton in the bush near Utiku turns out to be, a skull, and several bones believed to belong to a Maori. The remains had apparently been lying there along time. Within Bft of the remains was found an excellent specimen of a stone axe. , < >•-*« NAPIER CARNIVAL. NAPIER, March 30. April 25th.
