At 9 a.m. yesterday Captain Edwin issued the following forecast for the subsequent 24 hours:— Wind. —Westerly, strong to gale after 16 hours at all places northward of East Cape, Taupo and New Plymouth, but earlier at all other places. Barometer. —Fall everywhere, but rising at all other places southward of Timaru and Queenstown after 12 hours. Rain is probable in all parts of the country. Warning signal for westerly gale is exhibited at East Cape, Capes Campbell, Foulwind, Farewell Spit and Nuegets, and will be shown after sunrise at Tiritiri and Cape Maria van Diemen.
