PERSONAL.
Miss Todd, matron of the Timaru Hospital, is at present spending a short holiday in Masterton. Mr J. Carruthers, of Maryborough, has drawn a section of 328 acres in the Taumata settlement, Otago. The Rev. Mr Rennie, of Wellington, occupied the pulpit in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carterton, on Sunday evening. Mr A. D. McLeod, of Martinborough, will leave Wellington, this week, for Sydney, en route to England. Mr McLeod will return to the dominion in November next. Mr J. Harvey, of Carterton, has resigned the position of teacher at the Waingawa School. The resignation has been accepted by the Wellington Education Board. Mr Eli Devonport, of Masterton, met with a painful accident the other day through a heavy piece of kerbing, which he was lifting into a dray, falling on his hand and breaking a' finger. Mr D. L. Ashbury, farmer, who contested the Hawera seat some years ago, has announced himself as a Government candidate , for Egmont against all-comers. Three Opposition and three Government candidates are now out. ' •
At a meeting of the Pahiatua branch of the New Zealand Political Reform League, on Saturday, it was unanimously decided to invite Mr J. C. Cooper, member of the Colonial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, to contest the Pahiatua seat in the Opposition interest at the forthcoming general election. The selection of Mr Cooper was strengthened by the fact that letters from several districts had been received strongly recommending him as a suitable candidate.
