RED STAR FOOTBALL CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Red Star Football Club was held in the Occidental Hotel on Saturday even ing. Mr E. Welch occupied the chair, and there were thirty-two members present. The annual report stated inter alia: The past season was the best one the Club had had since its resuscitation. The seniors had a fine team, and showed considerable improvement on previous years' form. Several mem • bers secured representative honours. Judging by the new blood secured this season, the seniors will be particularly strong. The Club will be without the active services of Mr E. Wrigley, but he has expressed his intention of working as hard as possible in the interests of the Club. The juniors are to be congratulated on their excellent performance last season. The members 'took a keen interest in training, and this accounted to a considerable degree for the good fights put up by the teams. The Club financially is in. a sound position. The thanks of the Club are due to Mr J. O'Meara for a donation, and Mr E. Welch for a gold medal, and to other members for the interest they have taken in the Club.
The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balancesheet, congratulated the Club on the number of new members that had been obtained. The seniors promised to be very strong this season, the services of Messrs W. De Blois (Melrose), McGill (Petone); Thompson (Wanganui), J. DUggan (Masterton), Wooll (Dunedin), and others having been secured.
The report and balance-sheet was, adopted. The following new members were ■elected: —Messrs W. De Blois, McGill, J. Duggan, Thompson, R. Smith, Mcßarron, G. Hurspy, R. Scott, G. Christie, E. Mason, S. Mason, Wooll, Hebley, Russell Sutton, Wolstenholm, T. Wrigley, E. Smith, N. Neam, V. Gray, G. Ross, L. Barker, R. Welch, N. Chamberlain, G. McHattie, L. Boyd, T. Hanley, B. Smith, J. Barker, G. Stewart.
The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr J. O'Meara; President, Mr E. Welch; Vice-Presidents, Messrs J. C. Ewington, B. Iveson, W. S. Lett; Captain senior fifteen, Mr J. Adams; ViceCaptain, Mr J. Duggan; Secretary, Mr T. G. Hoar; Management Committee, Messrs J. Adams, K. Welch, D. Beere, J. Duggan, H. Walker; Selection Committee, Messrs J. Adams, J. Duggan, B. Iveson; Delegates to Wairarapa Rugby Union, Messrs J. Adams, J Duggan and D. Jtseere.
It was decided that the juniors should meet in the Y.M.C.A. Building next Saturday evening and elect their own management committee, captain, vice-captain and secretary. It was decided to make the following recommendations to the Wairarapa Pajgby .Union:—(l) That the Rugby Union make an effort this season to repay the visits owing to the Canterbury and Otago Rugby Unions, especially in view of the fact that these Unions will be visiting the North Island in 1909; (2) that in the event of the Wairarapa Rugby Union being unable ;to send the senior team to tour the south this season, matches .be arranged at Napier, Palmerston North and Wanganui for the junior .rep. team, the Union to pay all travelling expenses; (3) that Ihe Rugby Union provide caps for senior .and junior representative" players every season; (4) that the Rugby Union ask the various clubs in the Wairarapa to nominate a touch linje judge to act for them throughout the
season, to be officially recognised by the Union.
It was decided to support the motion of the Masterton Football Club with regard to the Wairarapa Rugby Union paying the cost of drag hire for teams competing in championship matches.
It was resolved to place on record the valuable services rendered to the Club during the past season by Messrs E. Wrigley, W. Darvill, J. De Blois, R. Todd, N. Dorsett, V. Williams, G. Smith, J. Collett and A. Chambers.
Special votes of thanks were accorded to Mr T. G. Hoar for a donation of five guineas to the funds of the Club, and to Mr D. Beere for acting as line umpire to the Club during the past three years. It was decided to write a letter of congratulation to the Masterton Club and to Mr J. O'Leary on tha latter's selection last year as a member of the North Island representative team.
It was resolved to inVite the Melrose Club to play the annual fixture with the Club at Masterton on Easter Saturday, and that a practice match, A v. B team, be played on the Showgrounds next Saturday. It was decided to apply to the New Zealand Rugby Union to remove the disqualification passed on E. Wrigley, a member of the New Zealand Professional Team.
