The phenomenal rainfall in Gisborne on Thursday caused a tremendous flood in the headwaters of the Te Arai stream, and wrecked t xtensivp damage to the upper portion of the municipal water supply works, which had just been completed. The flood carried away the pipe line for a distance of three miles, and left the pipes in fantastic positions high up on the bank. The former configuration of the valley is completely altered, and it will be necessary to re-survey a new line along the hillside. The damage is estimated at pribably five thousand pounds.
