DROVERS AND SHEPHERD'S SOCIETY.
SPECIAL AND GENERAL MEETING. A well-attended special meeting of the recently-formed Drovers' and Shepherds' Society was held at the Central Hotel on Saturday night, at ' which a resolution that the Society be registered as an Industrial Union of Workers, was passed.
■ A general meeting was then held. The Society's solicitor, Mr R. K. Jackson, was in attendance, and reported that the rules had not yet been approved by the Registrar. He also explained'the'provisions of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration' Act with referenco to industrial agreements, and proceedings before the Conciliation Board ana Arbitration, Court. It was decided to approach employers of drovers with a view to the making of an agreement, and a long discussion took place as to the proposed terms of the agreement. Eventually the discussion was adjourned till 8 p.m. next Saturday, when it was expected that the formulation of the terms would be completed. Mr Oliver, a Dannevirke drover, Attended the meeting and expressed the desire of tlie drovers in his district to associate with the Wairarapa Society, and it was decided to allow them to become members ( on compliance with the rules for admission, and if necessary to establish a branch office in Dannevirke.
Mrj Oliver undertook to send a list of members and employers. Mr Urwin was appointed a member of the Management Committee. At a previous meeting the following officers were appointed:—D. McKenzie, President; W. J. Thompson, Vice-President; D. McNair, Trustee; and a committee consisting of the President, Vice - President, and Messrs McClay and Jacqes.
