THE BLACKBALL STRIKE.
A DISAPPOINTMENT. . TYNESIDE MINERS AND WHARF LABOURERS REFUSE TO STRIKE. BY TELEGRAPH I'ItESS ASSOCIATION. , GREYMOUTH. March 29. The Blackball miners received a great disappointment on Saturday when the Tyneside miners, by a large majority, refused to strike. The delegates from Blackball arrived to attend and address a meeting, but were refused admittance owing to their not being members of the Un'on.
Mr Russell, a director of the Tyneside Company, and also a member of the Union, attended the meeting and pointed out the great loss that would incur by the mine being closed down.. The vote against to strike was 7S to 12. The news was received in Blackball with diseust, it being understood that the. Tyneside miners would stand by the Blackball men. The meeting of Wharf Union, held this afternoon, to consider striking out of sympathy with the Blackball miners, unanimously decided not to strike, and that a levy of five per cent, on the men's total wages be made for the maintenance of the women and children. The sum of £5 Os 6d whs collected in the Hall.;'
