* The Duke of Northumberland, in a speech at Newcastle, described the Pechham election as a miniature general election. He emphasised the revulsion in feeling against falsehoods about Chinese labour and the plunder policy of the Licensing Bill, which attacked capital. ; ; The bye-election last week# for the Camberwell division of Peckham resulted .in the return of Mr Gtitch, (tjnionist Tariffite), who defeated Mr Gautrey (Liberal). Thd previous member was. a Liberal.
