BOYCOTTING THE JAPANESE.
INDIGNANT CHINESE MERCHANTS.
SERIES' OP RESOLUTIONS
SYDNEY, March 28,
Chinese merchants have drafted a series -of resolutions for submission to a general meeting of thbir countrymen. The resolutions assert::—
"That the action of the Japanese -with regard to the Tatsu Maru inci--dent is a violation of treaty rights, and the demand of the Japanese for an apology heaped an indignity upon the Chinese nation which must be resented." "That this association resolves to withdraw all support from ihe ."Japanese line of mail steamers in every way, and that all goods imported and exported by Chinese jfirms shall be carried by other lines .of steamships trading to the Far East."
* "That all Chinese merchants and traders in Sydney and other parts of .New South Wales shall be required ±o .enter into a bond providing for a of £6O for every breach of this>ngreement."
Behind the single incident, comprised in the seizure of the Tatsu Maru is a considerable ferment of bad feeling, which has been working between Japan and China for some tiana. Jin. January the .Tokio newspaper "Kohuminshinbun" complained of the Chinese attitude towards Japan, and hinted that, unless outstanding questions are arranged, Japan will be forced to mobilise 700.000 men. The Tatsu Maru was seized by tSu'e Chinese Imperial Customs when at anchor near some islands in the, Canton Delta. The arms which sfte was unloading were intended for revolutionaries under Dr. Sun Yat Sen. This man, the leader of the revolutionaries in the south, changes his aspect so frequently that' the spies of China are unable* to keeo track of him. Withal he seems to have , effected some organisation, , and has money at his command,, for, despite the efforts of those guarding China's coasts, he still; managed to get weapons through •in increasing • numbers to those who will ultimately be called upon to follow the rebel flag.
