HEAVY GALE AT SUVA.
STEAMER DRIVEN ASHORE. SMALL CRAFT WRECKED. Received March 24, 9 a.m. SUVA, March 24. There was a heavy gale last night. The glass was at 29.25. The steamer Sangola, which arrived from India on the 18th inst., with 1,150 coolies, was driven ashore, with large lighters, loaded with Indian cargo, alongside. Many small craft were wrecked. Houses and balconies were also wrecked. The Levuka cable was interrupted, and no country news could get through. The Marama, bound for Vancouver, was detained, but departed at 6 a.m. VESSEL RE-FLOATED. BANANA PLANTATIONS DAMAGED. Received March 24, 11.30 a.m. SUVA, March 24. The Sangola has been re-floated. The banana plantations are damaged.
