THE BLACKBALL STRIKE.
. .—_♦ . By TEi.EGBAra-—Pukss Association. GREY MOUTH, March 21. The "Star" says that the Company's offer to the Union was contained in the following telegram:— "The Chairman of directors is willing to contribute half tho amount of the fine, providing the matter is settled forthwith.—McCullough." I The State miners have voted £SO and £2O weekly to assist the miners. Later. In reference to a statement by the "Grey River Argus," which Mr Leitch emphatically denies, that the Company offered to donate half of the ; fine on the strikers the Grey "Star" savs that the manager,, when interviewed on the question, last night, i said he knew nothing about the mat- >. ter, but had hoard that the Union . had been informed by Mr J. A. Mc--1 Cullough that this would be done. ' He presumed, therefore, that the decision was communicated by the \ directors in Christchureh to Mr Mc- ■ Cullough. The miners are very emphatic in I asserting that such an offer was . made, and desired it to be made public.
