FOOTBALL.

THE TOUR OF THE "PRO BLACKS."

PY TET/EORAPH —PKESS ASSOCIATION

Received March 18, 9.37 p.m. SYDNEY, March 18. English Press comments on the match between New Zealand and the Northern Union team, at Stanford Bridge, are to hand. From a spectacular point of view, the match was a great success. About twelve thousand people were present. The Englishmen were completely outplayed in the first half. Smith scored for the New Zealanders after a brilliant run, Messenger converting. Only fine tackling by Taylor saved the English line from being crossed on several occasions. Wrigley was particularly noticeable for fine work. After a good bout of passing the Northeners scored, but failed to convert. The second half saw fine passing between Wjnyard and Messenger, from which Johnston* scored, but Messenger failed to add the points. Soon after Todd crossed and Messenger this time succeeded in converting, and followed this up by kicking a goal off a try secured by Johnstone. In the last five minutes the Englishmen got going, and Eccles, who was injured in the early part of the game, crossed the line, but the place kick failed. The visitors won*by 18 points to 6.
