FIRES.
BY TELEGRAPH —rPKESS ASSOCIATION. WAIHI, March 18. An eight-roomed boarding-house, owned by Mr C. Neilson, and occupied by Mr Marsh, was totally destroyed by fire last night. Mrs Marsh and her children were awakened by falling crockery, and escaped in their night clothes. Marsh was on the night shift at the mine. The insurances' are:- Building, £350 in the Yorkshire office; furniture, £lls in the Norther:). ASHBURTON, March 18. Shortly after 1 o'clock this morning a two-story house, owned by the HampsteadTown Board, and occupied by the Misses Fawcett, was, with its contents, totally destroyed by fire. The origin of the fire was due to the flame of a lamp catching the draping in the hall. The occupants, who had only just time to leave the nremises, were not able to save any furniture or personal effects. The Fire Brigade attended, but owing to the defective water supply was unabte to render much assistance. The building was insured in the Nurth British office for £250, and the furniture in the Liverpool and London and Globe for £l5O.
