LAWN TENNIS.
Following are the results of the Men's Handicap Doubles competition completed on the Masterton Tennis Club's Courts on Saturday last:— First round.—A. R. Sclanders and G. G. Aitken owe 15 beat C. C. Cox and S. R. Gawith, owe 40, 6—2, 6—4. J. B. Brown and J. Bee rec 15. beat D. K. Logan and N. H. James rec 15. 6—4, 6—2. J. B. Moodie and N. D. Bunting scr beat W. P. James and J. Gray rec 30, 6—5, 3—6, 6—4. A. C. Major and H. M. Boddington rec 30 won by default from E. J. Mirams and F. H. Elcoate receive half of 15. Second round —A. R. Sclander3 and G. G. Aitken owe 15£ beat J. B. Brown and J. Bee rec 15, 6—5, 6—3. A. C. Major and H. M. Boddington rec 30 beat J. B. Moodie and N. D. Bunting scr, 6—l, 6—3. Final—A. R Sclanders and G. G. Aitken owe 15J beat A. C. Major and H. M. Boddington rec 30, 2—6, 6-2, 6-3. A few days ago a number of mem-bei-3 of the Masterton Lawn Tennis Club went out to the opening of the Kahumingi Court, and spent a most enjoyable time. After the court had been formally opened by the striking of the first ball over the net by Mr O. F. Vallance, a Yankee tournament, bast of 17 games, was indulged in by the players present. Following are the scores:—C. C. Cox and D. K. Logan owe 15$, 3 wins, 27 games; H. W. Rishworth and N. D. Bunting, scr, 2 wins, 26 games; A. R. Sclanders and A. H. Rothenberg rec 15, 1 win, 24 games; G. G. Aitken and D. Caselberg owe 15, 23 games. The court is an asphalt one, splendidly fenced in, and well-sheltered and considering that it has only just been laid down played exceptionally well. The visiting players returned to, Masterton in the evening, thoroughly pleased with their day's outing. Owing tc the inability of the Masterton Tennis Club to get a team away the match with the Eketahuna Tennis Club, which was to have taken place at Eketahuna on Saturday next, 14th inst, has had to be postponed. The match wiil most probably be played at Eketahuna r,n Saturday, 21st inst. On Tuesday next, St. Patrick's Day, a match will be played on the local Club's grounds between the
Pahiatua and Masterton Tennis Clubs. The match Will consist of six men and four ladies aside, and the Masterton team will be selected from the following players:—C. C. Cox, G. G. Aitken. A. R. Sclanders. S. R. Gawith, N. D. Bunting, H. W. Rishworth, J. B. Moodie, E. J. Mirams, J. Bee, F. H. Elcoate and J. B. Browr., Miss M. H. Payton, Mrs J. B. Henry, Mrs W. H. Cruickshank, j Miss Whitcombe and Mrs A. Caselberg.
