SWIMMING CLUB'S SPORTS.

HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL GATHERING.

The Wairarapa Am?,teur Swimming Club held very successful sports at the Baths yesterday. There was a fair attendance of the public, and the racing was splendid. Mr T. Shields, of Wellington, (New Zealand Swimming Association Consul) and Miss Cunningham gave exhibitions of fancy strokes and diving, Mr Shields also giving a fine illustration of life-saving, including the inducing of artificial respiration. Following is the prize list:— Plunge—S. Bennett 1, R. V. Hosking2; 27 yards-- H. Bridge 1, J. McLean 2; 50 yards Club Handicap— H. Maher 1, H. Bridge 2; 50 yards Club Championship—J. McLean 1, H. Bridge 2; Cigar and Umbrella Race—A. Kelly; Long Dive—S. Bennett .], F.Cole 2; Running Dive—L. Shuttleworth 1, S. Bennett 2; 75. yards—H. Marter 1, J. Winchester 2; Life-saving event-—A. Kelly 1, ■ A. Donald 2; 100 yards—H. Shuttleworth 1, S. Bennett 2; Schoolboys* Race—J. Pinhey 1, S. Wickens 2.

In the evening the Club held a social and dance in the Foresters' Hall, when over sixty couples were present. Mr Shields was among the guests, and he presented the prizes won during the season. A handsome silver-mounted pipe was presented to Mr Falls, custodian of the baths, from the Club in acknowledgment of his many services to the members. The social was a very enjoyable affair, an energetic ladies' committee providing an excellent supner. ""he Secretary of the Club (Mr ~S. H. Edwards), Dr. R. V. Hosking, and Messrs E. Daiiell (Captain), E. Richards (Judge) and W. G. Taylor (Starter) and other energetic members deserve praise for the excellent arangements at both sports and the social gathering.
