THE KAISER'S LETTER.

NEWSPAPER COMMENT,

Received March 10, 12.39 a.m BERLIN, March 9

Mr H. 11. Asquith's statement dealins* with the Kaiser's letter incident has reached official circles.

Newspaper comments in Berlin thereon are partly wholesale abuse of "The Times," and partly an attempt to minimise the letter. The "Berliner Tageblatt," recalling the Kaiser's famous telegram to the late President Kruger during the Boer war and other incidents, argues that vigilance ought to have been exercised, but apparently Prince von Bulow like others was taken by surprise. LONDON, March 9.

The "Standard's" Berlin correspondent reports that as a result of an informal exchange of views between the British and German Governmenta mutual conviction has been recorded that the incident ought not to. in any way, exercise an unfavourable influence uuon Anglo-German relations. The "Standard" adds that the Kaiser's letter was a general reply to alarmist views, Parliamentary and other utterances and articles in British reviews and newspapers, attacks on either side being a secondary feature.

The "Morning Post's" Berlin correspondent says that the leading newspapers express great satisfaction at the general attitude of thn English press.
