SEIZURE OF A STEAMER

TOKIO, March 9. Japan, on Thursday, reiterated her demand regarding the seizure of the steamer Tatsumaru off Macao. She intimated that in the absence of a prompt reply she might be compelled to take action tj uphold the dignity of the \nation, and ensuie the safety cf her rationales. The Government at Pekin, on Friday, expressed deep regret at the removal of the Japanese flag, an'l promised to punish the officials implicated and also offered to reply further regarding the seizure of arms and ammunition.

LONDON, March 9. "The Tiaies" Tokio correspondent reports that the ration is greatly excited over the Tatsumaru seizure. The Japanese consignor and the Portuguese consignee strictly complied with all the legal iurmalities.

It was reported on February 7th that the Chinese Customs officials had seized a Japanese steamer near Macao, a Portuguese settlement on the coast of China, near Hongkong. It was alleged that the steamer was landing arms for the rebels under Sun-Yat-Sen. Japan insisted that China must release the steamer. China wishes the matter to Le referred to a mixed Court. Japan has orderfid the cruiser lUdzumi to proceed to Hongkong, but declares that this is not intended as a menace.
