GERMANY AND HER COLONIES.
GRAVE ABUSES IN CAMEROONS. Received March 6, 8.10 a.m. BERLIN, March 5. Herr Dernberg, the Director of German Colonial Affairs, speaking in the Reichstag, admitted that grave abuses existed in the Cameroons in connection with the rubber trade. He promised to try to protect villagers by settling them on agricultural areas away from caravan routes". The colonisation methods adopted by Germany have lately come in for very much adverse criticism. In the Reichtag, a few days ago, HerrDernberg stated that during the late troubles in East Africa, it was found necessary to seize ill available food supplies. Either the German forces had to be fed or the enemy weakened. This policy had resulted in 57,000 natives being starved to death.
