PERSONAL.

Mr A. L. Webster has been elected secretary of the Wairarapa Rifle Association, and Mr H. VValden treasurer. Mrs W. G. Beard, Miss Beard and Mr Cyril Beard left Masterton, yesterday afternoon, en route to England, via Australia.

It is rumoured that Mr W. Denniston, an old setrler of Pahiatua, will contest the Pahiatua seat at the general election.

Our Greytown correspondent telegraphs :—Mr F. H. Bunny was married at Greytown .yesterday to Miss Bey, only daughter of Dr Bey, of Greytown.

The death occurred, at Kouini, on Wednesday night, of Mr George Hurst, an old settler. The deceased, who was 6G years of age, arrived in New Zealand in 1856 with his parents.

Messrs A. Donald, W. E. Bidwill, E. H. Saunders, and Drs Deamer and Palmer have been elected honorary members of the Featherston Fire Brigade; and Messrs Cavill. Symes and Higgison active members.

The Rev. H. Watson, M.A., of Ara •noho, was on a visit to Masterton, yesterday. The rev. gentleman, who was accompanied, by his wife, has been nominated for the position of Vicar of -St. Matthew's,* rendered vacant by the resignation of the Rev. A.M. Johnson, who has accepted a call from St. Mark's Parish, Wellington. It is very probable that the Rev. Watson will accept the office, and if so, Masterton Anglicans can congratulate themselves on having secured a Vicar who is likely to prove very popular indeed, and a gentleman of high attainments. Tho ' Kev. Watson was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge, and there, took high mathematical honours, being a senior optime. He spent four years in the north of England, and in 1902 came to New Zealand to take up the charge of Aramoho.
