New Zealand has something to be proud of in the fact that in the athletic field she is able to compete with credit v/ith any part of the British Empire. In football she has been able to more than hold her own against Britain and Australia, and only last week one of her sons in a sculling content confirmed the posi-
tion he recently achieved in New South Wales as champion sculler of the world. . Since that event New Zealanders competing in the Australasian Amateur Athletic Championship meeting at Hobart have won no fewer than seven championship events out of a total of fifteen. Two of the New Zealanders hold Australasian records. It is a fine thing for this dominion to have achieved such splendid results against the Commonwealth in athletic contests, and should be an incentive to our youths to attempt still greater things. The appreciation of the people will assuredly be manifested in a marked manner upon the return of the champions.
