BLACKBALL MINE STRIKE.
DECISION ON A RECENT PROSECUTION.
MATTERS QUIET. BY TELEGRAPH - PItESS ASSOCIATION' GREYMOUTH, March 2. Warden Turton gave his reserved decision this morning in the case in which two Blackball miners were charged with refusing to resume work at the conclusion of fifteen minutes' crib time, claiming that they were entitled to half-an-hour. The warden held that he had jurisdiction in the matter, and fined the men 5s and costs.
Matters at Biackball are quiet. The union meetii.g was being held this morning.
From what can be gathered the men are determined to stand firm, and allow the law to take its course. There is a growing feeling that the affair is going to be serious. The men are being addressed by Fitzgerald, a Socialist from Wellington, who entreats them in forcible language to remain firm.
The manager of the mine states that things must be brought to a crisis either to-morrow or Wednesday at the latest. He blames the agitators for the trouble.
