BY TELEGRAPH—I'KESS ASSOCIATION. FEILDING, March 2. Intermittent showers of rain commenced to fall here, and in the Kimbnlton district at nine o'clock this morning. There is a prospect of more to-follow.
CARTERTON, March 2
The heavy rainfall last night has now ceased, but showers fell at intervals. The weather is "oppressingly hot, but the atmosphere is free from smoke.
GREITOWN, Good rain has now set in here. WOODVILLE, March 'I
Since 9 o'clock this morning heavy rain has been falling. There is every indication'of the drought being over. EKETAHUNA, March 2.
The drought broke up last night, and rain is still falling in showers. Sufficient has fallen to prevent further danger from firea, and in the meantime to give the grass a start. TIMARU, March 2.
The long continued drought broke up here this morning, when heav*, rain set in, and there is every prospect of it continuing for some time. The rain is too late to do much good to the pastures, but will do great good to turnip crops and enable farmers to get on with ploughing operations.
