At the inquest on Henry Wilton, a plasterer, who died from injuries sustained by falling from a scaffolding at the Caledonian Hotel, a verdict of accidental death was returned; the jury adding a rider to the effect that more care should be taken in testing timber for the erection of scaffolding. CHRISTCHURCH, February 29. S. R. Merrett, who was injured in the motor car accident on Saturday week, died at the hospital at 5 o'clock this morning. After hearing the evidence of Dr Crooke, nouse surgeon at the hospital, as to the condition of Merrett when admitted to the hospital, the inquest was adjourned till March sth, in order to. allow of further enquiries being made as to the exact cause of the accident.
