PROPOSED RECRUITING IN

MADAGASCAR

PARIS, February 28

It is semi-officially announced in Paris that the Governor of Madagascar is absolutely opposed to the engagement of Malagasy natives for the Rand.

Iu the House of Commons some days ago Mr Winston Churchill, Un-der-Secretary for the Colonies, stated that the Transvaal Government had asked Britain to ascertain whether France would sanction the recruiting of Madagascar natives for employment in the Rand mines.
