MEETING OF GENERAL COM-

MITTEE,

A meeting of tha General Committee of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society was heid on the Showgrounds, at Carterton, yesterday. There was a large number of members present, and Mr 11. McPhea was in the chair. A letter was received from „the Carterton Fire Brigade acknowledging receipt from the Society of a donation of £2 2s. Mr A. Alexander wrote ofFering to return his judging fee of £3 3s as a donation for a special prize. The Secretary of the National Association wrote enclosing the seventeenth annual report and balance-sheet The report stated that the following resolution had been carried by the Association unanimously:— "That as tht regulations relating to the shipment of sheep for Australasia are so carefully drawn up, and as th» sheep are inspected by the veterinary surgeons appointed by the Colonial Governments, before shipment, and, further, as the voyage occupies about six 1 weeks, this Association respectfully suggests that the period of quarantine, i.e., thirty days, is excessive, and trusts that the respective Govern-

ments will see their way to modify

the period of quarantine." A copy of the resolution was sent to the AgentsGeneral for the Australian States, and to the High Commissioner for New Zealand. The report further States that the request was not entertained.

It was reported that the capital value, of the Society's property now is £5,520, being £I,OOO more than last vear.

The treasurer "submitted the following financial statement:—Receipts since April Ist, 1907, £1,375 6s lOd; expenditure, £1,651 Is lid; debit balance, £275 15s Id; amounts to be received, £IBO 16s. The sum of £2S9 13s had been spent in permanent improvements during the year. The actual profit on the year's transactions had been £203 13s lid.

Accounts totalling £6 13s 9d were passed for payment. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on May 2nd.
