BRITISH HOP INDUSTRY.
UNFAIR FOREIGN COMPETITION. GOVERNMENT ACTION SUGGESTED. Received February 27, 9.20 a.m. LONDON, February 26. The Government has appointed a select committee to inquire regarding the condition of the hop industry. A meeting of Kentish growers resolved that the time was ripe to protect English growers against unfair foreign competition. Some'speakers suggested a duty of 40s per cwt.
