MARCHING COMPETITION. MASTERTON SECOND. BY TELEGKAPII —I RESS ASSOCrATION. NEfw PLYMOUTH, February 27. The Military Marching Competition was held to-day in the Recreation Sports Ground, and attracted an attendance of upwards of 7,000, who lined the terraces, presenting a very pretty sight. The march N.L8.8.A.. was capitally rendered by most of the eleven competitors. ' The result was as follows Band March- Music. Tl. ing. Taranaki Garrison 180 1-3 96 276 1-3-Masterton 1791-3 93 2721-3 Woolston 175 96 271 Palmerston North 177 1-6 92 269 1-6 Nelson Garrison 172J 95 267J Auckland First Battalion 171 95 266 Mornington 172 2-3 88 259 2-3 Hastings 1661-6 89 255 1-6 Marton 1701-3 81 251 1-3 Manaia 156 80 236 Auckland Mounted Rifles 148 82 230 In the euphonium solos there were seven competitors. R. Estall (Woolston) was first, with 64; Cudby (Taranaki) second, 63; Hughes (Nelson) third, 62. \ The Trombone Trios resulted: — Wanganui, 74 points, 1, Auckland, First Battalion, 73 points 2, Woolston, 71 points 3. Mornington (70), Taranaki (69) and Masterton (66) also competed.
