BY TELEGRAPH —I'IIESS ASSOCIAT/OS NEW PLYMOUTH, February 25. Heavy rain fell most of the day, and the garden party and welcome to the bands was postponed till Friday. The E flat cornet solo resulted : S. Williams (Woolston), 66 points 1 B. Simpson (Masterton), 61 points 2 W. Nicholls (Stratford), 58 points 3 The Theatre Royal was crowded to-night for the B flat cornet solo competitions, which resulted:— F. Fox (Hastings), 62 points 1 H. Crystall (Wanganui) and G. A. Berryman (Nelson), 61 points, equal 2
Also competed—W. Thomas (Mornington), 53; L. Jorgensen (First Battalion), 59; Jas. McGrath (Woolston), 60; J. Richards (Ne'.son), 58; J. Carlton (Hastings), 56; C. Pike (Palmerston North), 55; N. Lovell (Taranaki), 54; G. Saunders (Taranaki), 60; E. Rissell (Stratford), 55. An immense amount of good has been done by to-day's tropical downpour. The weather seems now cleared up, and large crowds are in town. The championship sports will be held to-morrow, and the first test selection in the evening.
