ADMIRAL EVANS' FLEET.
THE INVITATION TO VISIT AUSTRALIA.
Received February 24, 10.21 a.m . MELBOURNE, February 24.
It transpires that Mr Deakin, in December last, wrote to the Hon. Whitelaw Reid, American Ambassador to the Court of James, whom he met several times, when in England, asking his opinion about a visit from Admiral Evans' fleet. The reply being favourable, Mr Deakin then, through the Governor-General, Lord Northcote, forwarded the invitation.
