Fire at Kilbirnie.
WELLINGTON, February 23
Mr D. O'Donnell's seven-roomed residence at Kilbirnie was destroyed by fire, yesterday afternoon. The fire spread to an adjoining house recently occupied by Mrs Girdlestone. The brigade succeeded in extinguishing the blaze before the second building was totally destroyed. The fire was caused through the upsetting of a kerosene stove upon which beeswax and turpentine were being melted in a pot. Mr O'Donnell's house was insured in the Commercial Union Office for £7OO, and the contents about half of which were destroyed, were insured in the South British office for £350. Mrs Girdlestone's house was insured in the Sun Office for £SOO, and the furniture for £3OO.
