Sufferers by the Bush Fires.
PRACTICAL ASSISTANCE PROMISED.
STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER
AUCKLAND, February 21
Referring to the bush and other fires in h's speech at the social given to Mr La wry, M.P., at Newmarket, to-night, the Premier said that the Government proposed to give some practical assistance to the settlers wno had suffered losses through these fires. He was communicating with his colleagues, and he hoped that by to-morrow he would be able to indicate the full direction that the Government proposed to go in the way of affording relief to a deserving body of people who worked early and late in carrying on their important part of the work of the country.
