WELLINGTON WOOL AND SKIN SALES.
Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report as follows regarding Friday's sale:--We offered 1,000 skins, 550 hides and calfskins, and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. There was a good attendance of buyers. Wool is being held for the sale on 21st February. Skins—The market was steady at last sale prices. We quote: Fine crossbreds Gd to 7d. coarse crossbreds 5d to Gd, dead skins 4d to 4?d, dead hoggets 3d to 4d, dry pelts 3d to 4d, green lambs Is 4d to 2s Id, green pelts Is to 2s Id, lamb pelts 8d to Is. Tallow—Steady. Parcels in shipping order £24; tins £ls to £2O; rough fat £ls. Horsehair Is to Is 4d per lb. Horns 6s to 18s 9d per hundred. Cowtails Is to Is 4d per dozen. Hides—We had again an excellent selection of well-conditioned hides which met with strong competition. Prime ox hides advanced §d, and good cow hides fd. Inferior hides and calfskins met with a dragging sale and showed no improvement. l - We quote—Ox hides, extra heavy, 6Jd to 7d; ox hides, heavy, 6d to 6*d; ox hides, nredium, 5d to 52d; oxhides, light, 4Jd to sd; cow hides, 3fd to sd; calfskins, best, 4d to 4Jd; calfskins, cut ar.d slippy, Id to 3d; hides, cut and slippy, 2d to 4d; stag hides, 2d to 3d; bull hides, 2d to 2id. Our next sale will be held on Friday, 28th February, 1908. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows:—A better feeling was experienced at to-day's sale. The Home markets are more settled than they were when the last local sale was held, and we can report skins par to Jd per lb advance on last sale's prices. Hides were in good demand at late rates. We quote—Sheepskins—Fine crossbred and half bred, 6d to 7d; coarse and medium, 4£d to 6|d; dead, 33d to 42d; broken and inferior, pelted, Id to 3d; pelts, dry. 3Jd to 4d; lambs, 4£d to sd; green and salted pelts, Is to 2s each; green and salted lambs, Is 9d to 2s 6d each. Hides—Ox, light, 4d to 4£d; cow, 3Jd to 4Ad; damaged hides, lid to 3d; calf, sound, 3gd to 4|d; calf, damaged, *d to ljd. Tallow—ln casks, to 25s cwt; odd packages, 22s j to 23s 3d cwt.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows:—A large catalogue of skin and hides, and a few dumps and bags of wool were submitted to a good attendance of buyers. The demand for skins showed a firmer tone than at last sale, and prices were slightly better. Hides were well competed for, and good sorts were about Jd per lb in advance, whilst inferior classes and calfskins were about on a par with last sale rates. We quote as follows: —Wool —Fine crossbred to Gd, bright dead s|d to 6Jd, medium crossbred 4£d to 4gd, lambs 3d to 5Jd. Sheepksins— Fine crossbred s|d to GJd, medium and inferior 3£d to 4|d. crossbred dead and broken 3£d t> 4Jd, hoggets 42d to 6d, pelts 2Jd to SJd. HidesOx, Gllbs to 621bs, s|d to 6d, 501bs to 531bs 4|d to sgd, cut3dto4|d; cows, 511bs to 60lbs 5Jd to sgd, 401bs to 42!bs 4Jd to 4§d, cut 2sd to 4gd yearlings, 3Jd to 34d; calf; 3£d to 4Jd. Tallow—ln casks, £25 per ton; in tins, 21s to 22s 3d per cwt.
