Presentation to Mr Massey.

SOME OPPOSITION SPEECHES,

AUCKLAND, February 16.

There was a gathering of over 4,000 people at the Helretia Ostrich Farm, on Saturday, the occasion being a garden party tendered to Mr VV. F. Massey, M.P., Leader of the Opposition. A presentation was made to him by his constituents of a silver salver rose bpwl and tea and coffee service.

Mr Massey is taking the opportunity later of replying to Sir Joseph Ward's recent speech at Auckland, so he confined his address to what he called "the very real danger before the country in the struggle between Socialism anti-Socialism."

Mr Latig, M.P., said that the Government policy was one of compromise, and he referred to *he land legislation and Gaming Bill. Mr Mander, M.P., and Mr Bollard. M.P., spoke warmly regarding Socialism, and Mr Monk, ex-me.nber for Waitemate, dwelt at length on the freehold versus leasehold question.

The other speakers wereMr A. S. Harding, who is the Opposition candidate for Kaipara, and Captain Bell, Opposition candidate for Waikato.
