REGARDED WITH INCREDIBLE EQUANIMITY. Received February 12, 10.14 p.m. LONDON, February 12. The Lisbon correspondent of "The Times" comments on the incredible equanimity wherewith the assassination of King Carlos and Prince Luiz is regax'ded by the population. The "Standard's" correspondent states that the killing of the late King and Crown Prince is considered a justifiable act. No real effort is being made to discover the accomplices of the dead assassins, and subscriptions are being raised for the families of the latter.
The Republican newspapers demand the criminal , prosecution of the late King Carlos' equerry, who cut down one uf the assassins with a sabre. According to some accounts the public feel that Senhor Franco was too precipitate in abolishing sinecures wholesale. He endeavoured to divide the parties and tben rule as dictator. Received February 13, 1.8 a.m. LONDON, February 12. The Lisbon correspondent of "The Times" asserts that a plot on January 28th was organised with the tacit if not active connivance of the Republicans and Monarchists. Yet three days later Senhor Franco, despite the ominous complicity of the population, induced the late King Carlos to sign the initiation of practically a Star Chamber. The assassinations followed immediately.
