ACCESS TO THE HOSPITAL.

A SHORT CUr PROPOSED.

A "DAWSON" BRIDGE OVER THE WAIPOUA. An important matter is to come before the next meeting off the Masterton Hospital Trustees, namely, the question of sanctioning the erection of a Dawson suspension bridge over the Waipoua River to connect the rear of the hospital grounds with the Park extension. The suggestion is viewed with much approval, as it means that a considerable saving in distance would be effected for visitors to the institution from town; further, the convalescing inmates could have ready access to the Park. Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., ex-chair-man of the trustees, la«t- avening, informed a Wairarapa Age reporter that Mr Joseph Dawson had prepared plans for a light and serviceable suspension bridge of the type which has made the designers name inseparable from suspension bridges in the bush districts, and that £IOO would probably cover the whole cost. The proposed nridge will have a span of 100 ft, with a clear width for traffic of five feet. It will be constructed after the lines of Mr Dawson's latest and best bridges. The dangerous northern approach would not need to be negotiated in either wintsr or summer.
