BRITISH PARLIAMENT.
ANGLO-RUSSIAN AGREEMENT,
DEBATE IN THE HOUSE OF
LORDS
Received February 11, 11.25 p.m LONDON, February 11.
The debate on the Anglo-Russian agreement, "'as continued in the House of Lords. Lord Sanderson emphasised the fact that it was the first occasion on which Russia had reciprocated a desire for a settlement of the group of Asiatic questions. The Marquis of Lansdowne held a similar view, and remarked that he, with some exceptions, viewed the agreement as a whole with satisfaction. He did not think that the conventions as regarded Persia were favourable to Britain. The neutral zone was likely to be of great advantage to Russia. The success of the convention depended on Russia's loyal interpretation, by which means she would uphold the convention and consolidate peace. The Earl of Crewe said he was glad that the judgment of the House as a whole was favourable. He insisted that the details would be advantageous to both countries and tend towards the world's peace.
