PERSONAL.

During his stay in Masterton the Rev. D. J. Murray will be the guest of Mrs Tait, Devonshire House. Mr A. Matthews has been elected chairman of the South Wairarapa River Board.

Mr T. F. Valentine, of Martinborough, has decided to take up his residence in Dunedin. The death occurred at Clareville on Monday evening of Mrs E. Goodin, at the age of 79 years.

Mr J. Falloon, of Pahiatua, is seriously ill, and his condition is causing his relatives considerable anxiety.

The Minister for Education (Hon. G. Fowlds) will open the Dannevirke High School and deliver a political speech at Dannevirke to-day. Mr Findlay, one of the recently apoointed dairy inspectors, has been placed in charge of the Eketahuna district, and will commence-his duties this week.

Miss M. Wilkinson is at present acting as relieving teacher at the Hamua School, the head teacher, Mr Kay being in Wellington Hospital, seriously ill. The matron of Renall-Solway Home, Mrs Johns, is at present enjoying a well-earned holiday. Mrs Boyes is in charge of the home during the matron's absence.

The matron of the Masterton Hospital (Mrs Morrison) is at present rather seriously indisposed. Sister Clayton-Brewer is acting as matron in the meantime.

At the fortnightly meeting of the Hope of Carterton Tent, 1.0. R., held in the Rechabite Hotel, Carterton, on Monday evening. Mr D. T. King was elected secretary and Mr J. Preddy treasurer. Mr W. R. Thompson, of Wellington, who has been relieving at the Pahiatua Post Office, has received notice of his promotion to the position of postmaster at Opunake. Mr Thompson left Pahiatua for Wellington yesterday. Mr J. G. Bee, senior assistant master in the secondary department at the Masterton District High School, left hurriedly on Saturday afternoon last for Oamaru, to which place he had been, summoned by telegraph on account of the serious illness of his mother.
