THE JUDGE'S SUMMING UP. DELIBERATIONS OF THE JURY. THAW AND HIS WIFE CHEERED. Received February 3, 8.47 a.m. NEW YORK, February 2. Judge Dowling, in summing up the evidence in the Thaw case, emphasised the fact that only such defect of reason, as would make hi'm.un-. aware of the nature of an act, or that the act was wrong, would excuse Thaw from responsibility fur his crime. The jury were eleven hours in deliberation on Friday, and took four-, tesn ballots, before they reached an agreement. The crowd cheered Thaw and his wife while they were motoring to Matteswan Asyum. Mr Littleton, Thaw's counsel, has decided not to hinder Thaw's committal to.an asylum.
