THE GOVERNMENT'S COMPROMISE. BILL TO BE INTRODUCED. Received February 3, 8.47 a.m. £ CAPETOWN, February 2. Mr J. C. Smuts, Colonial Secretary, will introduce a Bill in the Transvaal Legislature legalising the form of registration adopted in the compromise agreed to on Thursday last. Thirty-six Asiatics, who had been convicted for disobeying the registration law, have been released from gaol m Pretoria. Fifteen notices to Indians to leave the country have been rescinded. SATISFACTION IN INDIA. Received February 3, 9 a.m. CALCUTTA, February 2. The settlement come to in regard the registration of Indians in the Transvaal has caused unqualified j satisfaction in India.
