SPLENDID RAINS. SYDNEY, February 1. Splendid monsoonal rain is falling in districts where it is most needed. DEVELOPMENT OF SOLOMON ISLANDS. SYDNEY, February i. The Solomon Islands Development Company, with a capital of £10'?,000, is being formed- by Messrs Burns, Philp and "Company. Large tracts of land have been secured for plantations.
A FURIOUS GALE. Received February 3, 1 a.m. SYDNEY, February 2. A furious westerly gale sst in late last night, but only lasted a few hours. The Moeraki did not clear the heads till daylight this morning. The St. Kilda, which has arrived from Whangape,hove-to in the gale 52 miles off the heads. She was blown up to the heads before the gale abated.
