The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows:—At Pahiatua we had an average yarding in sheep; bidding all throughout was without life, although we quitted oar catalogue. Vendors quite realising the unsatisfactory state of the markets, were prepared to bring reserves within the range of buyers. Cattle showed a decline in price at both Pahiatua and Mastcrton. At Pahiatua shorn lambs brought from 5s to 7s 6.i, good sound young ewes 12s 2d, wethers (small) 9s to 10s, others up to 12s. store cows 25s to 355, light fats 60s. We sold a dairy of 50 good cows at prices ranging from 20s to 80s, making an average of £2 7a 6d. At Masterton, on Wednesday, we had a full yarding in sheep, and succeeded in quitting the whole catalogue with the exception of one pen of ewes. Cattle' were penned in small numbers, mostly all finding purchasers at low ra'tes. Best woolly fat lambs made 12s 6d, others 9a 6d to 10s, store woolly lambs 7s 6d, shorn (medium) 6s, others 5s to 6s, culls 3s, light fat ewes lis, good forward wethers 13s 6d, medium 10s, small 9s, best breeding ewes 12s, medium 8s to 9s, culls '4s, light beef cows 60s to 80s, forward cows 40s to 50s, cows and calves 435, yearlings 355. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows on their fortnightly sale, yesterday, at their Masterton yards ".—There was a good attendance of the public, but owing to the dry weather, buyers were not keen to operate. There were several lines of sheep from the Bush District, which had to be sold on account of vendors being burnt out, and in consequence many of the lines offered had to be sold at reduced rates. We quote as follows: —2 tooth wethers 10s to 10s 2d, 2 and 4 tooth wethers 12s 6d, lambs (shorn) 5s 6d to 8s for a really good line, mixed aged ewes 9s 9d to lis 6d; fat heifers £3 to £3 ss, fat cows £3 5s to £3 15s. With the exception of one line of sheep we, effected a total clearance.
