CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Wednesday. The annual meeting of the Carterton Methodist Sunday School was held on Tuesday The chair was occupied by the Rev. W. J. Elliott, and the Rev. Blair (Grey town) and Mr Rands (Featherston) were also present. Anthems were rendered by the choir, and addresses were given by the chairman, Mr Kir.g (superintendent of the school), Mr Holland, of Christchurch, and Miss Glanville. The Rev. C. Blair and Mr F. Rands contributed recitations. The secretary's report showed that the average attendance of scholars for the year had been 59, out of a roll number of 95, and the average attendance of' teachsrs 11, out'of a roll number of 12. The receipts for the year amounted to £ll 2s lOJ'd, and the expenditure to £ll 13s 9d, leaving a debit balance of 10s 10|d. Miss Mary Skelley, who has on the staff of the Carterton District High School for some months, is entering the Teachers' Training College at Wellington, to undergo _ a courfe of further instruction. Miss Doris Armstrong has been appointed to succeed Miss Skelley on the school staff. Mr W. C. Buchanan has .donated the sum of £1 Is towards the funds of the local Volunteer Corps. An old man named Thomas Bret died in Carter's Home, this morning, at the age of 66 years. The Carterton Borough Ccuncil have declared Thursday to be the statutory half-holiday for the ensuing year. . Mrs Lorenzen, mother of Mrs Carroll, of Carterton, is lying seriously ill in Wellington. During the month of December 150,000 feet of gas was manufactured at the Carterton, gasworks.-
