OPAKI QUOITS CLUB.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The attendance at the monthly competition of the Opaki Quoits Club was not quite as large as usual. Undoubtedly the bush fires were responsible for this, as a number of members were compelled to stay at home and protect their property. In •addition to the usual matches, the played the members of the Men's Club at rope quoits, and were defeated by 33 points. This is the third match of the kind that has taken place, but on the other occasions the ladies were successful. The ladies monthly competition was won by Mrs Duckett, junr., Mrs Duckett, senr., being second. The latter also won the trophy for the most points scored during the year. Mrs Thomas was successful in winning Mr McLeod's trophy for the biggest break made by a married lady during the year, the break being 43. Miss V. Petersen's break of 57 won the trophy given by. Miss Chamberlain for the single ladies. The ladies annual meeting, which should have taken place, was postponed until February, as several members were unavoidably absent. The men's monthly competition was won by J. Nicholson, with H. Chamberlain second; and S. Tankerslev third. a "The final round for Mr McLeod's *,. trophy resulted in a win for N. Wyeth. During the afternoon Mr Searle presented to Mr H. Daken, Mr E. W. Pay ton's trophy, and also mentioned that Mr Boyd'had donated another trophy for competition. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the donor, and likewise the ladies who served afternoon tea. The members of the men's c ub have decided to hold their fourth annual meeting on February 6th.
